How to Distribute Invoice Payments to Milestones
When an invoice covers multiple milestones, you can distribute the payment across them to track exactly how much of each deliverable has been paid for.
Step 1: Open the Invoice
Navigate to Invoices and open the invoice with payments to distribute.
Step 2: Go to Payment Distribution
Click "Distribute Payments" or navigate to the payments section. You'll see the invoice line items and their linked milestones.
Step 3: Allocate Amounts
Enter the amount to allocate to each milestone. The total of all allocations should match the paid amount. retaincoda shows the remaining unallocated balance as you type.
Step 4: Save
Click "Save Distribution". The milestone records are updated to reflect the payment allocation.
Payment distribution is especially useful for large projects with multiple phases — it helps you track which deliverables have been paid for and which are still outstanding.
